Get your hands on them drums!

Most people joining Sambando have no prior musical or percussion experience. So if you’re new to samba, the first step is to come along to one of our taster workshops to really get a feel for how you get on with the rhythms and the instruments. We run several workshops during the year depending on demand.

During the workshop we’ll learn a piece of samba music. We’ll provide and explain the different instruments that we play and most people take the chance to try out several instruments. The only thing you’ll need to bring is some earplugs. It’s not that we’re bad, just very, very loud!

Our open workshops are free although places are limited, so if you’d like to attend please complete this short form and we can reserve you a place or add you to our waiting list for future sessions.

Absolutely no prior musical or percussion experience is required.

Then, if you’re really gripped by the samba bug and there are vacancies in the band, you can start coming regularly to rehearsals and learn the various pieces that we play. We rehearse weekly on Sunday evening at the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester. Summer tends to be the busy gig season but we get bookings throughout the year.

Our minimum age is 16 (14 if accompanied by parent or guardian) and there’s no upper age limit.

If you already have experience of playing samba, and we have vacancies in the band we can fast-track you, depending on our gig commitments. Please send your details to our membership co-ordinator.
